Matsya Purana is one of the largest Puranas and is dubbed as Vigyana Sarvasva – the one that covers all knowledge there is. It describes various types of Vrathas, Narrations of many Divine Vamsas, Various Danas and their merits, Geography and structure of various Yugas.
Matsya Purana covers many narrations such as Daksha’s creation, Manvantaras, Surya Vamsha (Solar race), Chandra Vamsha (Lunar race), Yadu vamsha, Sraddha Kalpa (rites to be performed for those departed), Yayati’s life, Kacha Devayani’s relationship, Sarmishta’s curse and Devayani’s marriage to Yayati. Narrations of Yadu Vamsa, Kroshtha Vamsa, Vrishni Vamsa, Sri Krishna’s Vamsa, Pururava’s Vamsa and Agni Vamsa.
