Description
Narasimha Purana is an important Upa Purana that sings the glories of Narasimha. It begins with the creation, birth of Agastya and Vasishta from Mitra – Varuna, followed by the life of Markandeya, his marriage and his vision of Vata Patra Sayee (Vishnu as a child on the leaf in the waters of Maha Pralaya). Surya’s family and lineage into Surya Vamsa (Solar race), Surya’s 108 names as recited by Viswakarma are covered followed by the narration of Santanu (father of Bheeshma).
Second half of the Purana describes Narasimha Puja, Vishnu Puja, various methods of performing Homas, Vishnu’s Dasa Avataras, narration of Kalki and the characteristics of the Kali Yuga. The Purana concludes with various Dharmas, glory of Ashtakshari Maha Mantra and glory of various Theertha Kshetras.
